Creating New Races
Previous Top Next

Create new races in TackTracker using the New Races dialog.

There are two ways to get to this dialog:

1.   From the Track Loader.  Click the "Add Races" button
2.   Click the Race Editor button in the main window when no race is currently loaded

Normally you will want to use one or more loaded tracks to help you define your new race(s).  If your selected tracks are for two or more back-back races, you will define all races in one go.

If no tracks are selected when you invoke the Create New Races dialog, you will be prompted to supply the race date and approximate location.  This may be supplied by typing a coordinate, or selecting a nearby landmark.   If a track is selected, this information is sourced from the track itself.

To use this dialog:

1.   Specify the number of back-back races

2.   Type your race name.  If you have multiple races, TackTracker will automatically append the name with a race number.

3.   Use the TimeLine control to specify
·     The approximate start times
·     The end time for the last race

To use the TimeLine, drag the round "bubble" markers to the approximate start time for each race.  The track will be split 5 minutes before the first start.   You can adjust the pre-start time if you wish.
Move the right hand triangular end marker to the point at which you want all tracks to finish.

4    Set the precise start times using the Start Time table.  If you know the precise times, you may type them in directly.  If you don't know the precise times, you may use the main plot window to find the start time.
·     Select a race in the Start Time table
·     Drag the timeline under the plot window until the boats are just taking off for the start
·     Click the Set Race ... start button to set the start time
·     Select the next race in the Start Time table and repeat.

Hint: Try the Time Zoom bar to zoom in on the start.  The Time Zoom changes the displayed timespan of the track.

5    If you wish, you may go to the Race Editor to set the course and marks now.  This is useful if the same or similar course is to be shared by each back to back race.

6    Click "Create Races" to create the new races

After following these steps, your new races will appear in the Library, and also in the Matching Races box in theTrack Loader, when you select any tracks that match these races.  To populate the races with tracks, select the desired tracks and click "Save To Races".
