Navigation Rally

TackTracker's Navigation Rally software is the future of Navigation Rallies (or Log Trials).  Gone is the need to organise a horde of volunteers to record times as boats pass through each checkpoint.    With TackTracker, all scoring is automatic and completely accurate.  Results are available immediately the GPS data is loaded, ensuring both competitors and administrators have a great day.

TackTracker Trialed at Clipsal Investigator June 6 PDF Print E-mail

TackTracker's Navigation Rally software was trialled for the first time at the Clipsal Investigator Rally from Sandringham to Williamstown in Melbourne Australia on June 6. All 20 competitors were provided with a TackTracker GPS logger before the start, which was programmed to log their position and time every second.  No spotters or manual timings were needed or used for the event.Handing out Trackers before the Start

This event is available for free viewing from the Races Tab in TackTracker.  You will need to download and install the latest version (R2.16) or later to correctly view the Navigation Rally and see the results.

The use of TackTracker technology has sparked renewed interest in Log trials, and promises to help revitalise the sport.   For administrators, a rally becomes much simpler to organise and run, and requiring far fewer people.  For competitors, they know the scoring is fair and accurate, and they can review the event afterwards in the clubhouse, or at home online.

As expected for a first ever trial, a number of teething issues were encountered and are now overcome.  We believe the TackTracker technology is a great fit, and our Geoff reviewing results after the rallyfeedback is that this is a wonderful step forward for the sport.

We look forward to seeing many more TackTracker Log Trials around the world!

Navigation Rally Module PDF Print E-mail

The TackTracker Navigation Rally module is a licensed extension to TackTracker for running Navigation Rallies or Log Trials.  To run a Navigation Rally with TackTracker:

Define your rally event:

  • Define the course. Each Turn may be entered as a GPS coordinate, a distance and bearing, or laid on the screen with the mouse.    It is easy to review and edit the course as needed.
  • Define scoring gates.  Competitors are scored each time they pass through a gate.   You may define as many or few scoring gates as you wish.
  • Define the rally start date and time.
  • Define the starting interval.  Competitors may start every minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, or free start.
  • View the course in Google Earth against satellite terrain.

At the Event:

On the day, hand out the trackers to each competitor and collect them at the finish.

As each competitor's tracker is loaded into TackTracker, they are scored automatically, with results presented in a new "Nav Rally Results" tab.   Times and scores are provided for every gate crossing, and the total score automatically computed.  The rally may be replayed on a big screen for the interest and enjoyment of all competitors.

Although a license is needed to define and run a navigation rally, no license is needed to view a rally - so competitors may each view the rally at home on their own PC.
